Throw Back Travel (TBT): Mountain Trek to Everest View Hotel, Nepal (VIDEO)

I would like to share this video back in 2011 when we are on our way to Everest View Hotel.  It was the 3rd day of our Trekking Holiday in Nepal and still feel hyped with the adventure.

Flight to one of the most dangerous airports in the world, Lukla Airport in Nepal – Part 1

On our 3rd day in Nepal, we were scheduled to start our journey of an eight days Trek to Khumbu Region. It was about six in the morning when Steve, the owner of Shivapuri Heights Cottage drove us to Tribhuvan International Domestic Airport in Kathmandu to catch our flight to Tensing-Hillary Airport which is also popularly known as Lukla Airport.

Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square in Kathmandu, Nepal

It was still our second day in Nepal and a local guy who we met while roaming around recommended seeing Durbar Square in Kathmandu.  He volunteered to take us there but we opted to go by ourselves, we just asked the direction.  I can’t recall what streets we passed by to reach Durbar Square, but the important thing is that we found the place.

I thought of getting a Sim card before we fly in to Lukla Airport and start our Trekking Trip to the Khumbu Region.  The trek is about 8 days so I don’t know if I can last without calling home and checking my emails.  And for safety measure, it is advisable to have a working cell phone just in case you get into some kind of trouble while trekking.  With the Sim Card, I was hoping that it has a data package so I can use my Samsung Galaxy Tab while trekking and can access the internet.  Since this trip happened back in October 2011, I can’t remember if I had a data package or not.  Oh well.

Roaming around Tamil, Nepal

After the sumptuous breakfast while overlooking Kathmandu Valley from the Shivapuri Heights Cottages terrace, we head out to see the city.  Unfortunately, the driver is not available and so we decided to walk down the hill.  It’s about past nine in the morning so the heat is not too bad and I thought that it would be a nice pre-trekking exercise and a preparation for the grueling one that will happen the next day when we fly in to Lukla (one of the most dangerous airport in the world).

Shivapuri Heights Cottage, Kathmandu, Nepal – The next day!

I woke up about seven the next morning to my growling stomach, needed breakfast badly. I woke up my friend Lew, and told him I was starving; let’s go have breakfast on the patio. We walked up to the main house and there was a nicely laid out breakfast on the terrace, which had beautiful views of hills and the city below. We had plans to roam around Kathmandu for a day before we set out the next day for Lukla, which is considered one of the most dangerous airports in the world! That adventure will be discussed in one of my future articles.

Finally, the flat tire was replaced and ready to head to Shivapuri Heights Cottages which is located on a high ridge close to the edge of the National Park in Kathmandu.  After loading the luggage, the driver headed out, it took us about half an hour to reach the hotel cut off, which turned out to be a very steep single lane hill that looked like the beginning of a roller coaster. We just hoped that nothing was coming down, as we
attempted to go up!

Nepal, Day 1 – The Flight to Kathmandu

My flight schedule to Kathmandu was so convenient; I didn’t have to wake up so early to go to the airport and catch my flight and still had time to have breakfast at the Asiana Hotel.  It was scheduled at 1300 Dubai time via Qatar Airways.

Less than a month from now, me and my best friend will be in Kathmandu, Nepal for a Trekking holiday.  We’ll then fly into Lukla and pass through Namche Bazaar.  This trekking holiday will be my first and I wonder if I can really do this.  But hey, what is life without adventure once in a while right?  You may ask why Nepal?  Well, we thought about Mt. Everest and it might be interesting to trek around it and to experience being near the world’s highest mountain.  And, not everyone can experience this kind of holiday.
